Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!
The days are lengthening, temperatures warming, and our runoff waters beginning their descent into our streams, rivers, and lakes. As the bears emerge from their hibernation so do the YVFC crews stretch and yawn themselves awake, prepping their gear and making ready to mobilize for another year of restoring the Yaak’s watersheds and protecting its old and mature forests.
This year, along with our continued Headwaters Restoration and Forest Watch projects, we will be dedicated to our effort to designate the northwest corner of the Yaak Valley as a Climate Refuge: our nation’s first. This accomplishment would set the Yaak as an example to the world of what is possible in humanity’s effort to mitigate the effects of climate change while protecting our Earth’s last wild ecosystems. It would serve as a focal point of scientific inquiry about the effects of climate change, and help move that region—the wettest in the valley—toward something more closely resembling its historic range of variability: lots of big and ancient trees of many different species, which can hold vast amounts of carbon in long-term safe-keeping.
Just as our crews will need food and water in their packs, so will the YVFC need funds in our accounts so we can keep our organization healthy and our efforts at full strength. In honor of Earth Day and the ongoing efforts of the YVFC, an anonymous donor has pledged to match all donations up to $5,000.
If you would like to help us with our efforts, please submit your contribution today. We will ensure each penny is used to the very best of our ability to maximize your donation’s potential towards preserving the wild Yaak.
